This 1914 report includes the address of the Viceroy who was presented with a sandalwood casket and a silver trowel!
The infamous Macaulay Minutes of 1835 did not find anything worthy in Indian literature. But the Viceroy’s address makes a reference to the library of the University of Madras acquiring the Government collection of the Oriental Manuscripts and the scope for Oriental and Dravidian languages:
